Another inmate at troubled Forest Bank prison dies
Another inmate at Salford's troubled Forest Bank prison has died. It is believed the inmate was taken to hospital after being found in a serious condition in his cell before Christmas.
The prisoner, who has not been named, died in the early hours of this morning (Friday, December 27), a spokesperson for the prison confirmed.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman is investigating.
An HMP Forest Bank spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a prisoner died in the early hours of Friday 27 December. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family at this time. As with all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and therefore we are unable to comment further at this stage."
The death is the third at the prison within the last two months. Jake O'Brien, 22, from Altrincham, collapsed at the prison died and died Salford Royal Hospital on November 12.
Mr O'Brien was on remand at the Category B men's after being charged with car crime offences. Jake's mum, Sarah O'Brien, 39, from Altrincham, Trafford, said at the time: "I am deeply saddened to lose my first-born, precious baby boy. Your life had only just begun and it has been taken away from you. You truly did deserve more than this.
"Jake is a precious son and big brother and he will be sadly missed. As a family we ask for privacy to allow us to grieve and to come to terms with what has happened."
The M.E.N. has also reported earlier this month on the death of a third inmate, who has not been named, at the prison on December 18.
All three fatalities are being investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman, the prison has confirmed.
