Annan Athletic striker reckons side can win battle for League One survival

Annan hitman Tommy Goss reckons they can win their fight for survival after sinking local rivals Queen of the South.

He set up the demolition derby win last weekend with a headed opener in the 2-1 triumph at Galabank to slash the gap between the teams in the basement to four points.

And the former Queens front man said: “We needed to get that result.

“We knew it was going to be a feisty game being a derby after they got the better of us in the last three games and I was just happy to get the result now.

“We battered them and could have had loads more.

“I missed a few and could have had a hat-trick in that game.

“But it is all about the three points and they are massive and it is now about going on and trying to stay up.

“There are only four points in it so we will see what happens now.

“We can push on now and stay up. Anything can happen.

“They play Falkirk now who are top of the league and we have got Montrose. I got a bit of stick from the Queens fans so when I scored I was saying ‘there you go’.

“Now we have to carry that form onto this weekend.”

Goss then praised team-mate and former Queens player manager Wullie Gibson for his role at Annan this season.

He said: “And what about Wullie?

“What a player. He is right up there with the assists and you can see the way he is playing. He is 39, turning 40 this year, and he is a role model to the younger players.”
