Annan Athletic secure signing boost ahead of new League Two season

Annan have completed a double boost of signings for the new season.

Manager Peter Murphy told of his delight at capturing the signature of Leeds United midfielder Josh Galloway, son of former Gretna player Mick, while also re-signing influential winger Chris Johnston for another season.

Galloway, 20, joined the Yorkshire club in the summer of 2019 after impressing for Carlisle United’s youth side and spent the second half of last season on loan at FC United of Manchester.

Murphy said: “Josh is a big signing for us and I am delighted to get him on board.

“I have let four players go and lost one, Owen Moxon, to Carlisle United.

“The others who have left are goalkeeper Ryan Adamson, defender Cammy Clark, striker Iain Anderson and young central midfielder Kyle Fleming.”

Annan completed two more signings late this week including Andy Cook, 32, from Peterhead, on a one year contract.

Murphy said: “He is an experienced winger who has played higher up the league and he will add experience to go with our youth.

“We also signed Cameron Williamson, a young left back, from Falkirk on a one year deal.

“We are going to play Morton in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, June 25 and with our pitch being ripped and a new surface to be put down we have hired Gretna’s ground for the day for which we are very grateful.

“We are just waiting to decided if it is going to be a closed doors friendly, or a pay at the gate on the day.

“And a week after that on July 2 we have a game with Atherton Collieries .”

Murphy added that he is still hunting new players for the new season and said: “There are a few we have been in discussions with, but nothing is confirmed so far.”
