Annan Athletic boss urges players to finish the job against Clyde

Annan Athletic boss Peter Murphy wants his side to claim their place in history tonight.

The Galabankies won 3-1 in the first leg of their play-off final with Clyde on Tuesday night to give themselves an excellent chance of reaching the third tier of Scottish football.

Murphy said: “We have to go out and do our business and if it’s our night, it’s our night.

“Tuesday was very good and pleasing.

“Let’s hope tonight is even more pleasing and we can create a bit of history for the club.”

A brace from Max Kilsby and an Erik Sula own goal cancelled out Euan Cameron’s strike to give the League Two side a big advantage in tonight’s second leg.

Overall the Irishman was happy with how his players played but is aware the job is far from over.

Murphy added: “I’m delighted with the result but they caused us a lot of problems in that first half.

“The goal they scored was excellent so they have a bit of a threat but I think the way we came out in the second half was positive.

“Clyde were a bit of an unknown to us because they came from a higher division, but we did our homework.

“But the pace of that first half was 100mph for both teams so to go in 1-1 was good.

“We’ve dominated the second half and I’m delighted with the goals we’ve scored.

“The job is not done at all but from our point of view, we just have to have our players fit.

“My lads have worked really hard so we’ll see who we have available for tonight.”

Annan have been in this position twice before and fallen at the final hurdle.

Last season the club lost out to Edinburgh in the final but the manager won’t be thinking of that come kick-off tonight.
