Annan Athletic boss says players "devastated" after derby defeat

Gutted Annan boss Peter Murphy told how his players were “devastated” at losing to the Doonhamers in the first derby clash of the season.

The Galabankies took a fifth minute lead with an Efe Ambrose own goal before Queens roared back to win 3-1 and had the luxury of missing a spot kick with Gavin Reilly blazing it over the top.

Murphy insisted: “My players are all devastated in there.

“There are a lot of Dumfries boys there among them and I am sure there are a lot of arguments among them.

“Especially with two of the goals coming from our attacks and chances that we don’t take. At this level if you don’t take your chances you get punished.

“We were always going to be under pressure.”

He added: “They got a goal back and I think my boys got a bit rattled and I have spoken to them about that. We need to deal with that a little bit better.

“Queens got a bit of luck with Connelly’s shot coming off the bar and then hitting Greg Fleming’s back, but in saying that we got a bit of luck with our goal.

“And our keeper Greg also had an absolutely stunning save from Efe Ambrose.”
