Angus Gunn confirms Scotland decision as he makes honest international snub admission after Steve Clarke talks

Angus Gunn insists he’s never been more ready to follow in his dad’s footsteps and become Scotland number one after confirming he’s switched allegiance from the Three Lions to the Lion Rampant.

The Norwich City shotstopper says nobody is happier with his decision than his old man - former Aberdeen and Norwich star Bryan who won six caps between 1990 and 1994. Gunn’s decision comes after talks with Steve Clarke ahead of this month’s European Championship qualifying double header against Cyprus and Spain at Hampden. Clarke will name his squad on Tuesday and the 27-year-old - who has been capped right through the age groups by England including 12 times at U21 level - is expected to feature. The 6ft 5in keeper will now vie with Zander Clark, Liam Kelly, Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie for the position between the sticks with recognised number one Craig Gordon sidelined by a broken leg.

Gunn, speaking after Norwich’s 1-0 Championship defeat to Sunderland on Sunday, said Canaries team mates Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean had a big role to play in his decision too. He told the Pink Un : "I had a meeting with the manager (Clarke) a couple of months ago.

"I've spoken to him a few times, and I've decided to change allegiances. I'm available for the squad, I don't think they've announced it yet so hopefully I can get into it, It's exciting times for me.

"It's a time in my career where I want to be playing lots of games. I don't feel like when people have spoken about it before that I've been playing regularly enough to play for Scotland.
