Angry Wayne Rooney reveals how he was told about Aston Villa transfer as he confirms Derby deal

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has confirmed that forward Omari Kellyman is set to join Aston Villa after a deal was agreed between the two clubs.

Reports emerged on Wednesday that the 16-year-old was set to arrive at Villa Park with Villa taking advantage of the Rams’ perilous financial situation.

Derby have been in administration since September as the club searches for new owners. The Rams boss has also been subject to a transfer embargo imposed by the EFL over the January window.

Speaking after his side’s 2-0 loss against Huddersfield, Rooney gave an update on his squad.

"I lost a player this morning [Wednesday], a 16-year-old local lad. I got a text message this morning that a deal had been agreed with Aston Villa," Rooney said, via DerbyshireLive .

Speaking of the transfer, Rooney added that it’s a ‘tough one’ for him to take.

"He is a local lad from Derby, he didn't want to leave the club. He wanted to play for Derby County and so when you see young local lads getting sold from the football club it is hard,” he added.

"I am not form Derby but I know what it is like to come through an Academy and have those dreams of playing
