Angels' Shohei Ohtani (oblique) officially out for season - ESPN
The Los Angeles Angels placed superstar Shohei Ohtani on the 10-day injured list with an oblique injury on Saturday. He's out for the rest of the season.
The news comes one day after Ohtani's locker at Angel Stadium had mostly been cleared out without an official explanation. He had missed the previous 11 games with the oblique injury.
Ohtani was already shut down as a pitcher this season because of a tear in his right elbow ligament but he continued to play as a hitter until straining his oblique in batting practice last week.
Ohtani, who went 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA this season, leads the AL with 44 homers and his 1.066 OPS is second best in the majors. He is set to become a free agent this winter after six seasons with the Angels
