Ange sets Tottenham alarm bell ringing as Spurs boss told 'know your history' amid fan fury at cup exit

Ange Postecoglou has been heavily criticised for not taking the EFL Cup seriously at Tottenham – and told to "know his history" by one pundit.

The former Celtic boss has enjoyed a bright start to life in the Premier League with seven points from their first three games including a win over Manchester United, their first ever at their new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Postecoglou made nine changes for that one with a number of fringe men, including maligned Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies, brought in from the cold for a runout. The result was a 1-1 draw, Richarlison cancelling out Micky van de Ven's own goal, and a subsequent exit on penalties.

Despite his bright start, defeat left fans raging as one avenue to ending their 13-year wait for a trophy of any description closed at the first hurdle And Gabby Agbonlahor reckons it's a lesson he'll learn from as he should have gone all guns blazing to deliver silverware for Spurs this season. He said on talkSPORT: "Things have started well at Tottenham but the thing for me is he should know the history of the last few seasons with Spurs. When they've rested players, they've got knocked out.

"Last season, they rested Harry Kane and got knocked out the cup. You're in such a good moment at Spurs, you've got no European football, just play your best team and take players off (if you're winning).

"Why not play Maddison and Son, and rest Kulusevski and Bissouma? Mix it up a bit. Making nine changes ... it's the same players that cost Spurs. Sanchez isn't good enough, Lo Celso is OK, Ben Davies has been a good servant but isn't good enough any
