Ange quizzed on taking ENGLAND job as former Celtic boss dusts off 'come on mate' catchphrase after rousing speech

Ange Postecoglou has made his feelings clear on being asked about potentially becoming England manager.

The Australian's early success at Tottenham, going unbeaten and to the top of the Premier League after eight games, has turned heads with some even using Postecoglou's international pedigree of previously leading his country to the World Cup as the foundation to be a future manager in England's national set-up. Current boss Gareth Southgate took the Three Lions to a Euros final but has yet to end the long wait for silverware.

And while 58-year-old Postecoglou is settling in to life after Celtic, he was put under the kosh on whether he could eventually see himself becoming the man to lead the charge at Wembley. The Aussie laughed it off in his customary way, saying: “England? Oh, come on mate. They’ve got a fantastic manager and I’m eight games into a Tottenham career. That’s how I think.”

Postecoglou also paid a visit to speak with Martin Boyle and Co before they square off with England, giving a speech alongside Guus Hiddink. Ange said: "It wasn't that long ago I was here. Now I'm in the Premier League and everyone loves me but trust me, I haven't changed one bit. The boys will tell you, I'm the same person. "But because I was Australian, because you're Australian, sometimes you have to work that little bit harder.

"Nothing wrong with that. That's what makes us special and different. Nothing is given to any Australian footballer. You all have to earn what you get because as soon as you say you're from Australia, that puts you down a peg or two. But you're here because you don't let that happen and don't let that happen from now on"
