Ange Postecoglou snaps at reporter 'don't put words in my mouth' as pressure ramps up on toiling Tottenham boss

Under-pressure Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou accused a reporter of putting words in his mouth after another defeat.

Anthony Elanga's goal was enough to move Nottingham Forest up to third in the English Premier League table with victory over Spurs, meaning Postecoglou's side sit 11th after a run of just one win in their last five league outings. And the defeat saw #AngeOut trending on social media site X, as fans turned on the ex-Celtic manager - who has been in charge since the summer of 2023.

The Aussie boss was clearly angry post-match when he was asked for his views on Amazon Prime Sport's Faye Carruthers. He fumed: "It was a tight game, there was not much in it. With the way Forest set up it was never going to be too open or too many chances. We had a couple of good chances to get our goal, they got theirs and there was not much between but they got on top." Carruthers continued: "When we spoke pre-match you mentioned energy and that the players were struggling with that and it felt it as chances went begging."

But Postecoglou angrily hit back snapping: "I didn't say we were struggling with energy, you're putting words in my mouth. I said we needed energy. We weren't struggling with it. But it was a tight game, we had some good chances, they didn't have too many themselves but they got the goal. We tried hard to claw it back but we couldn't. It was a tight game, but we lost so we've got to take the disappointment of that."

Fans on social media were left fed-up, with one saying: "This is the worst manager I have ever seen in my lifetime of supporting spurs. Tim Sherwood was actually better. He is absolutely clueless. There is a reason why no other manager in world football plays the way we do. This is not football. "
