Ange Postecoglou names main Celtic motivation as he admits Champions League factor is spurring stars on

Ange Postecoglou insists guaranteed Champions League group stage entry is a massive incentive for Celtic to get the title wrapped up.

But the Parkhead boss is adamant the biggest motivation is to give his staff and the supporters a sweet summer to bask in success.

Scotland’s champions received confirmation this week that the Premiership winners are assured to join the elite next term without qualification matches after the suspension of Russian clubs from the UEFA competitions.

Celtic are on the brink of securing the spot with a six-point lead in the title race and just three games to go.

Postecoglou admits it’s a massive carrot for the group and told Celtic TV: “I was aware at the beginning of the year that was the likelihood, so we knew it was an important title to win because of all the benefits you get from the fact that you are guaranteed group stage Champions League football.

“That is the level we all want to be at and where we want this club to be.

“Of course that is a massive incentive, but, first of all, it is to bring some joy and success to our supporters, especially after last year when we didn’t have any success.
