Ange gets honest over Tottenham demands in brutal Celtic contrast as Premier League 'arrogance' called out

Ange Postecoglou has pinpointed the main difference between the challenge he faced at Celtic and what he's dealing with at Tottenham, while calling out the "arrogance and pretentiousness of the English Premier League.

The Aussie in his his second season at Spurs, and for some has made a rod for his own back by saying he "always wins something" during his second season with clubs. He completed a domestic clean sweep in the 2022/23 campaign in charge of the Hoops before making the move to North London. Having guided Tottenham to fifth place last term, many are now looking to see if Postecoglou can win a long awaited trophy.

Asked if this job is the most difficult challenge he's faced given the scrutiny on the Premier League, Postecoglou delivered a home truth regarding the self proclaimed "best league in the world" as he explained how the demands at Celtic differed from the ones placed on him south of the border.

“There’s a little bit of pretentiousness and arrogance about people in the Premier League thinking they’re in a special place,” he told Optus Sport. “But it’s still football. The scrutiny is not a challenge for me.”

“The club (Spurs) has its own unique challenges, for sure. Are they more difficult than others? I don’t know. When I was at Celtic, people said ‘Well, yeah, but Celtic are expected to win’. I go, ‘Yeah, that’s right, you’re expected to win’.

“You lose one game and it’s a big problem for you. Not many can cope with that. So it’s just a different challenge [at Spurs] for sure. But I get why people would say 'well no, it's because of the level you're at now and the scrutiny that you're not having success.'
