Ange and Brendan can raise two fingers as well as trophies to Celtic scoffers but Treble is no formality – Chris Sutton

The current Celtic manager is going for another Treble but the last one to do it is entitled to stick up two fingers to his critics.

I didn’t have a dog in the fight at the Europa League Final the other night, but I must admit I was delighted for Ange Postecoglou to win the trophy with Spurs.

He was absolutely entitled to give it the big up yours to everyone afterwards given some of the shameful abuse he’s taken this season.

Postecoglou hasn’t just been criticised – he’s been ridiculed. So much of it was way over the line, like the nonsense in the last week about him potentially ending up a clown.

Some people suggest he shouldn’t have bit on that one on the eve of the final – but why not?

If he meant to sit back and accept that stuff? Ange showed them all up in Bilbao, and it was also good for him to prove just how flexible he can be.

We all love the Angeball stuff but he showed he can be pragmatic. He was missing several top players – yet again – but he got the job done.

That was all that mattered. He said himself the league season wasn’t good enough, but there were mitigating factors.

And there’s no way they would have lost so many games if Postecoglou wasn’t honing in on the European trophy.

Either way, would Spurs fans have rather finished sixth and won nothing? Don’t be daft.

He got battered for his line about always winning something in his second season, but what for?

He was only speaking facts. He has always won in his second season – and has done it again.

You’ve got to admire the way he’s stuck to his beliefs and his principles. He’s been unwavering since day one.

He got pilloried for saying it, but the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta have said similar stuff and no one bats an eyelid.
