Andy Murray Olympic snub enrages viewers as BBC served up a volley of complaints over treatment of a tennis icon

Furious Andy Murray lovers raged at the BBC for shunting the ultimate British sportsperson on to the iPlayer.

The twice Olympic gold medalist is bringing down the curtain on his incredible career in the men's doubles with Dan Evans and his adoring public felt short-changed after it wasn't put on the main channel of BBC One. Murray, once again, thrilled in his own unique way as he and his team-mate outlasted doubles specialists Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 11-9 to set-up a quarter final berth.

But punters felt it was a total farce they had to dust off their digital credentials – with many older viewers finding the whole situation a challenge. Yes, the swimming is a marquee event, however, supporters want more joined-up thinking when Sir Andy is on court. Gymnastics was also favoured ahead of the action at Roland Garros. One fan summed up the complaints of punters across Scotland. He said: "Andy Murray's probable last ever match. And BBC1 are showing women's rugby 7s. Sir Andy-possibly Britain's best ever sportsman- relegated to BBC iPlayer. Typical BBC. USELESS."

Another added: "Seriously. Watching what could’ve been Andy Murray's last professional match & in the final set tie break you decide to switch channels?? But on the iPlayer through the ‘live’ section of the tennis match. Had to go wading through all the #Olympic streams to get it."

And one was struggling where to even find it. They wrote: "Help!!! When is Andy Murray on? @BBCSport" The digital element was not pleasing everyone, another added: "Murray on iPlayer AGAIN!! WHY? Not everyone can access this."
