Andy Halliday dements Scottish football with his Rangers goal 'celebration' as pundit blows a gasket

Motherwell star Andy Halliday has been called out for not going tonto for his Premier Sports Cup semi final goal against boyhood club Rangers.

The 33-year-old – who left the team he loves after five years at Rangers in 2020 – showed true bravery to fling himself at a dangerous cross fired in from Steve Seddon. Halliday decided against going tonto as he made a peace gesture to those in Light Blue behind the goal And while some Celtic supporters joked a new supporters' club was inbound, others tuning in noted Halliday's decision not to celebrate, others reckoned Halliday was mad not to go crazy against the team who let him go.

One X user joked it was hardly Denis Law sending Man United down, while others countered, stating: "Halliday must have thought it was offside there with the lack of celebration. And BBC pundit Steven Thompson reckons Halliday should have made a bigger deal of his vital goal. Speaking on BBC Sportsound, Thompson said: "Andy Halliday's desire and run to get into the box is absolutely sensational. The cross itself is magnificent and he does so well to get anything on that. I didn't like his non-celebration though, he just scored in a semi-final."
