Andy Goram celebrated for Rangers heroics as Hotline comes together to salute The Goalie

He was the man who broke Tommy Burns’ heart but tributes flowed in yesterday from both sides of the Old Firm divide for Rangers legend Andy Goram.

The former Ibrox No.1 passed away, aged just 58, on Saturday following a brief fight with cancer. First up to pay his respects was John Bruce, who said: “The word 'legend' is often used glibly by football fans. One man who really was a legend was Andy Goram. Held in such high regard by his team-mates, he was known only by one word - Goalie. A true Rangers legend who was, to many fans, the greatest goal-keeper Rangers ever had. RIP Andy.”

From the green half of Glasgow, Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire, had this to say: “As a Celtic fan, the Hotline pages are all about banter and a bit of tit for tat but I'm saddened to hear about the sad passing of ‘The Goalie’. If Andy Goram had instead played for Celtic he would have made the late great Tommy Burns a very happy and successful manager as he was probably one of the best goalkeepers Scottish Football has ever produced. My condolences to Andy's family.”

Kenneth Houston added: “Another Scottish great passes away too soon. It did not matter what colour of shirt you wore, or badge you adored, you will be missed. RIP Andy.” Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, emailed in: “Andy Goram was the greatest goalkeeper Scotland has ever seen and Rangers will always be indebted to his historic saves and performances which took them to nine in a row and one step from Euro glory. Immortalised in history, he will be talked about for years to come. Andy leaves behind a legacy at Ibrox and a statue is a must and now. Andy you are now in a safe pair of hands, thanks for the memories.”
