Andy Cole sends Newcastle fans warning over transfer spending plans

Former Newcastle United striker Andy Cole has warned Magpies supporters that it will take time to build sustained success.

Newcastle have been on a meteoric rise up the Premier League table in 2022 that started when the club were purchased by Saudi-investment group PIF in October. They were quick to act on changing the club’s manager, with Steve Bruce being dismissed and replaced by Eddie Howe.

When taking over from Bruce at St James’ Park, Howe took over a side second-bottom in the Premier League and who had failed to win in any of their opening 11 games of the Premier League side.

Newcastle now sit 10 th with three games remaining this season and their upturn in form since the turn of the year was down to their big investment in the January transfer window, signing Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, Chris Wood, Matt Targett and Kieran Trippier.

Having climbed up half the table in just a matter of months, big talk is now around what Newcastle will do in the January window in their bid to edge near to qualification for European football next season.

Speaking about the exciting times ahead in the north east, Cole, who scored 68 times in 84 games for Newcastle, admits that while he is looking forward to seeing what happens next with Howe’s side this summer, he has warned supporters that success will not come instantly, despite an impressive start in the PIF era.
