Andy Carroll has sent West Brom & Steve Bruce a contract reminder

Steve Bruce has confirmed that West Brom will assess Andy Carroll’s situation in the summer when his short-term contract expires after he netted his first goal for the club.

Carroll came from off the bench to head home Semi Ajayi’s cross in the dramatic 2-2 draw with Huddersfield Town at The Hawthorns on Friday evening, by doing so completing an unlikely comeback and prompting some cheer for a dwindling Hawthorns crowd who have been worn down by dismal form in recent months.

The target man then produced some excellent defensive work right at the death to head clear off his own line as Huddersfield sought to regain their advantage. A first goal, a point-saving clearance - and then Carroll completed his post-match media duties after returning to the pitch for his warm down.

Many Albion supporters would quite like to see Carroll’s stay - due to come to an end once the season concludes - extended into next term, and Bruce himself has admitted that he is healthier than he’s seen him at any point during their time together at Newcastle.

“We’ll address all that,” Bruce reasoned, when asked about Carroll’s future. “When the end of the season comes, there are a lot of decisions to be made on a lot of people. It’s good to see him fit, keeping well and keeping healthy.

“I think that’s his third goal, he got a couple for Reading. You’ve got to put the ball in the box for him, and we’ve managed to do that today.

“I think he started as a centre half, as he always told me. It was a great clearance as well [off the line at the death].

“He doesn’t like being on the bench, I have to tell you that, which I understand. The mobility of the other two was just something I needed to see at Hull and they did okay tonight.
