Andrew Redmayne: Australia goalkeeper threw Peru water bottle into the stands
Goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne was the hero for Australia as they booked their place at the Qatar World Cup after beating Peru on penalties.
In their intercontinental playoff on Monday night, nothing could separate the two nations in 120 minutes.
It resulted in a nerve-wracking penalty to decide who will be competing in the World Cup.
But just before full time in extra-time, Australia manager Graham Arnold decided to substitute goalkeeper Mat Ryan for Sydney FC’s Redmayne.
It proved to be an absolute masterstroke.
Redmayne danced about on his line throughout the shootout in an attempt to put the Peru players off. It’s something we’ve seen goalkeepers do previously but not to this extent!
It worked.
