Anderson lively, Murphy wasteful: Tranmere 1-1 Newcastle United half-time ratings

Newcastle fought back to go into the break tied at 1-1 with League Two Tranmere. The Magpies had the first chance when Sean Longstaff found Jacob Murphy, but his shot was comfortably saved.

But after settling well, Tranmere took the lead midway through the first half. The United defence was caught happing and Elliott Devitt broke to open the scoring.

United were dealt an injury blow when Emil Krafth was forced off with an injury, Kieran Trippier replacing him. But almost instantly they drew level, with Jamaal Lascelles alert to turn the ball home at the second attempt following a deep corner.

Karl Darlow was then on the receiving end of bad challenge, but the United keeper was OK to continue.

Here's how Lee Ryder has rated the players so far. You can follow all the second-half action in our live blog here.

Left totally exposed for the goal. Distribution has been reasonable enough.

Hit by injury blow and carried off.

Left with a frantic chase back for the Tranmere opener but has made amends with the equaliser.

Given a tough time by the League Two side.

Some powerful runs forward and has offered a threat.

Looked lively and made things happen.

Yet to make tackle.

A testing half. The ball played through him for the opener.

Has put in plenty of crosses

Wasteful with the ball.

No impact. Yet to register a shot.
