An Rás Tailteann to return in 2022 after three years away

An Rás Tailteann will return in 2022 after a three-year absence.

The premier Irish men's cycling road race will be back for a 67th edition from 15-19 June.

The race was a UCI event from 2000 until it was last staged in 2018, recent editions being cancelled due to financial difficulties and then the Covid-19 pandemic.

A statement from organising committe Cáirde Rás Tailteann said: "The committee is reaffirming its commitment to staging An Rás Tailteann 2022, one of Ireland's most iconic and beloved sporting events.

"The intention remains to stage it in a five-day format from Wednesday, 15 to Sunday, 19 June, using the same planned route as previously published for 2020/2021.

"Over the next weeks the committee will be reassessing the individual elements of the route, accommodation, and safety measures, considering the enforced postponements during the last two years, triggered by the onset of Covid-19.

"Cáirde Rás Tailteann are also keen to point out that they continue to work very closely with Cycling Ireland to promote the event and thank the national organisation for their continued commitment and assistance."

Cáirde Rás Tailteann also confirmed that Ger Campbell has taken over as race director from Amsterdam-based Eugene Moriarty.
