An MMA Referee Once Choked Out A Dazed Fighter And Left Him Unconscious

In one of the most bizarre moments in MMA history, a confused fighter was once choked unconscious by a referee just seconds after being knocked out.

No, you read that correctly. The bout between two unnamed fighters, which is believed to have taken place in Russia last year, was over in a matter of seconds when one of the men was knocked down after a huge right hand.

The referee quickly intervened to stop the fallen fighter from receiving more punishment but in an unexpected turn of events, the official was forced to defend himself. Just check it out for yourself below.

As you can see in the footage, the dazed and confused fighter gets up and attempts a double leg takedown on the referee, who showcased great defence by locking his arm around the man's neck.

With his back against the octagon as he applied a guillotine choke, the fighter soon fell unconscious as his trainer held him upright.

It really is one of the strangest moments we've seen in some time, although this isn't the first time someone has tried to attack a referee inside the octagon.

In 2020, Ahmad Al Darmaki made Bogdan Kirilenko tap out to a rear-naked choke in round one of their featherweight bout on the UAE Warriors 12 card but his refusal to release the submission saw him disqualified by British ref Marc Goddard.

He then followed that up by shoving former light heavyweight turned UFC official Goddard and attempting to grab him by the throat, though the Birmingham native was having none of it.

Goddard stood his ground and Al Darmaki eventually marched off to celebrate a victory that counted for nothing in the end.
