Ambitious Wishaw boss says 'hard work starts now' as he looks to next season

Wishaw ended their season on Saturday as Cambuslang Rangers beat them 3-2 in the West of Scotland League Cup second round, but boss David Dunn says the hard work starts now.

Dunn says he has agreed terms with several players to stay on for next season, and hopes to take Wishaw as high up the league as he can.

He said: “This is just the start for myself, I’m a very ambitious person regarding football, so I want to be the best I can.

“We got a good taste of it, and if we’re not successful it won’t be for the lack of trying anyway.

“The hard work starts now.

“We’ve got the nucleus of a very good side. Like anybody at this level, you feel as if you could just add two or three to take you onto the next level.

“It’s very difficult to get those kinds of players in with the budget and structure at the club, but it won’t be through the lack of trying.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of the boys, there have been positive talks, and a lot of them have re-signed for next year, so I’m very confident about next season again.”

Wishaw were 3-0 down to Cambuslang in Saturday’s cup tie, but netted through Stevie McGurgan and Neil Reynolds to provide a nervy finish for the Conference B champions.

He said: “We scored two late goals and maybe if we had a wee bit longer at the end there we might have got something, but it just wasn’t to be.

“Again, credit to the boys, I thought they were excellent and there wasn’t much in the game between the two teams.

“Cambuslang are a very good side and the circumstances on Saturday weren’t ideal – we had a lot of people away, players were suspended, and we had a young goalie making his debut.

“At 3-0 lesser teams would probably have crumbled, but they fought back to the end.”
