Amber Barrett starts for Ireland away to Slovenia

Amber Barrett will make her first start for the Republic of Ireland in seven months in this evening's Nations League clash against Slovenia.

Barrett came off the bench towards the end of Friday’s 1-0 defeat of Turkey. The Donegal native’s last start came against England at Carrow Road in July 2024.

She gets the nod from the off in place of Marissa Sheva as new head coach Carla Ward looks to make it two wins out of two.

Kyra Carusa - the match winner four days ago - again leads the line.

Denise O’Sullivan and Ruesha Littlejohn pair up in central midfield, flanked by Lucy Quinn and Heather Payne.

At the back Megan Campbell retains her place alongside Anna Patten, with Katie McCabe and Aoife Mannion the full-backs.

Slovenia started their Nations League campaign with a 2-1 victory in Greece.

Sasa Kolman’s side are technically accomplished and comfortable in possession. Ranked 39th in the world, on paper they pose the biggest threat to the Girls in Green winning the group.

Republic of Ireland: Courtney Brosnan; Aoife Mannion, Anna Patten, Megan Campbell, Katie McCabe; Ruesha Littlejohn; Heather Payne, Denise O’Sullivan, Lucy Quinn; Amber Barrett, Kyra Carusa
