AmaZulu's new 32-year-old coach shrugs off age debate: 'It's irrelevant'

New AmaZulu head coach Romain Folz says he is ready to showcase his managerial abilities at a bigger club, despite question marks raised about his age.  

The French mentor, who replaced Brandon Truter, says the move is an upgrade on his last job and he wants to fulfil the owner's ambition at his new club.  

"For me it's a good opportunity for me to showcase my work," the 32-year-old told reporters.  

"It is a sign that the previous work in my old club caught the eye of the people. As much as I could've done better with my former team (Marumo Gallants), I think we developed some very good football so it's a progression from me on a personal matter, it's a club with more history.  

"More than that, it comes down to what the club is looking for in terms of vision and ambition this season and the seasons after that." 

Despite Folz being relatively young in terms of coaching, he labelled debates surrounding his age "irrelevant" and will deal with it like he always has in the past.  

"I'll deal with it the same way I've always done. When I was in Botswana and France, half of the team was often older than me, it doesn't make much of a difference because I consider everyone the same, whether you're 18 or 37, I'll treat you the same because I'm looking at the performance than anything else.

"I don't see it (age) as a problem, some might see me being younger gives me more energy and dynamism but at the end of the day, I think it's an irrelevant debate to have because I don't think it makes any difference. For the past 10 years I've never had any issues with a player and I know it's going to be the same here."
