Amazon has removed a popular Fire TV Stick feature and users are 'furious'
If you own an Amazon Fire TV stick, you might want to check whether a popular feature has been removed from your device. In a recent software update, the tech giant has disabled a feature that many users previously relied on to personalise their gadget, and some users aren't happy with the change.
As spotted by AFTVnews, users are now no longer able to 'Hide Apps' from the home screen following the most recent update to Fire OS. This option used to let you keep apps installed on the device but remove the shortcut from the home screen, cleaning up the user interface.
The main reason that this is frustrating for users is that Fire TV sticks come pre-installed with a bunch of applications that most users won't ever use. For example, if you're not signed up to Freevee or Prime Video, there's no point in keeping the shortcut on the home screen, so being able to hide it from view was a godsend for a lot of users.
The feature was also handy for keeping certain apps away from the prying eyes of children. If your child ends up spending far too long playing games on the Fire Stick, you could previously remove the app shortcut without uninstalling it entirely - but that functionality is no longer a thing.
So far, the update seems to have been pushed to most Fire TV Stick devices. That includes the likes of the Fire TV Stick Max, 4K and HD.
"The removal of the option to hide apps has been confirmed on both the older 1st-gen Fire TV Stick 4K, running Fire OS 6, and the current 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick Max, which uses the latest Fire OS 8, so it’s likely that this change will be applied to all Fire TV models," the AFTBnews team said.
It might seem like a small update, but users have been left pretty miffed by the changes. In a post on
