Amateur jockey, 22, fighting for her life after 'horrific' fall at Worcester races

Promising amateur jockey Lauren Keen-Hawkins is in intensive care after taking a dramatic fall at Worcester races.

The 22-year-old hit the ground hard after falling from her mount, Faerie Cutlass. Trainer Kim Bailey expressed horror at the sight of the accident, stating it was "horrific" and confirmed she had been taken swiftly to hospital. In her blog, Bailey commented: "What was a great day at Lord's with Archie and his mates was ruined by the horrific fall that Faerie Cutlass had at Worcester. Lauren Hawkins, who was riding FC, was knocked out and did not look in a good way. She was taken to Birmingham Hospital and was last night in ICU... We are all thinking of her and her family."

Keen-Hawkins has experienced success at Cheltenham, the pinnacle of jump racing, claiming victory in a hunters' chase during the prestigious April meeting in 2022 aboard the 13-2 shot Dandy Dan. This win stands as her sole triumph in a dozen outings, with many of those rides being for Bailey, a trainer with a Grand National victory to his name.

Following Keen-Hawkins' unsettling fall, Worcester races shared a heartfelt message: "From each and every one of us at Worcester, we are wishing Lauren from @kimbaileyracing a speedy and most importantly a full recovery."
