Arsenal are reportedly 'very close' to signing Alvaro Morata this summer after failing in a move for the Spaniard in January.
The Spanish striker has long been a target for the Gunners, with the prospect of a move having been explored once again with the north London side keen to add to their attacking options ahead of the 2022/23 season. Alexandre Lacazette looks likely to depart at the end of his contract and despite Eddie Nketiah having seemingly agreed a new deal at the Emirate Stadium, there is still a dire need for reinforcements.
Now, it appears that the Gunners are edging towards bringing in a forward. As per Sport, the Gunners are ‘very close’ to sealing the signature of Morata for a fee of £25million.
Should that be the case then it would be the Spaniard's first return to the Premier League since his disastrous spell with Chelsea. The 29-year-old was signed from Real Madrid in 2017, scoring 24 goals before departing midway through the next campaign in a switch to Atletico Madrid.
He joined the Spanish giants on a permanent basis before then switching to former club Juventus on a two-year loan deal last term. The Turin outfit have an option to retain his services permanently but are not expected to activate that clause with Morata having netted just 12 goals in all competitions this season.
