Alonso encouraged F1 is ‘moving in the right direction’
Fernando Alonso feels the new measures and regulations are moving the sport in the right direction to becoming more competitive.
The two-time World Champion made it clear that his return to Formula 1 was based around the 2022 rules, which are aimed at bringing the field closer together by building a specification of cars that are designed with the intention of being able to follow each other more closely.

It also provides a blank slate for the teams to try and move their way up the pecking order in the sport, with the Spaniard’s long fight to battle for a third title continuing into another year – but he’s hopeful about the year ahead.
“I hope so,” he quipped at the launch of the A522 when asked if the new regulations could be a ‘game-changer’ this year. “I came back to the sport in 2020 because of these regulations, so it has been one year and a half waiting for these cars.
“I think the team did an amazing job in the last year building this car in Enstone and Viry, so we are all very motivated.”

He added that the budget cap is helping bring the teams closer together in terms of spending power, which in years to come will enable others to catch
