Almost four months ago the body of a woman was found in Chorlton - police still have no idea who she is

It has been almost four months since the body of a woman was discovered at Chorlton Water Park - but police still don't know who she is.

Police were called to reports of a body being found in the River Mersey in the beauty spot at around 11.10am on March 21. A huge emergency services response attended the scene and recovered the woman from the water.

But despite extensive investigative work including specialist examinations, DNA testing, and reviews of missing persons records, the identity of the woman remains a mystery, Greater Manchester Police have said.

This is due to the length of time that the woman had been in the water before discovery and due to how decomposed her body was when it was uncovered, the M.E.N understands.

Enquiries are still ongoing to ascertain what led to the woman being found in the water. Further specialist examinations are continuing to shed a light on who she is.

A number of appeals were shared by police after the gruesome discovery, in the hope somebody would come forward that could assist with investigations. After contacting Greater Manchester Police, it was confirmed that her identity remains unknown almost four months later.

When she was found, she did not have any identifiable items in her pockets, or visible jewellery. However, images have since been released of a lime green Primark-branded crop-top, believed to be the same as the one she was wearing. She was wearing New Look JENNA size 8 jeans and was wearing non-slip style socks.
