Ally McCoist sent Cameron Norrie plea as Rangers mad dad targets emotional Glasgow meet up

New British tennis sensation Cameron Norrie’s dad admitted he’d love to meet up with Rangers legend Ally McCoist as his son continues his bid for Wimbledon glory after booking his place in the semi-final at SW19 following a five-set thriller at the All England Club.

David Norrie is from the King’s Park area of Glasgow and grew up a fan of the Ibrox side who extended an invite to the ace British No. 1 to a game in Govan which the 26-year-old - who faces defending Novak Djokovic - to which he replied “Love it, definitely be up for it.”

And dad David has his eye on a meeting with strike legend McCoist after missing out last year when the 59-year-old was due to captain Scotland against England in an exhibition match - with Record Sport columnist and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton leading the Auld Enemy - which was cancelled due to Covid.

Norrie Snr. was invited onto talkSPORT to discuss his son’s heroics after his last eight win over David Goffin but McCoist wasn’t on his usual breakfast morning slot and regular co-host Laura Woods asked if he would like to meet McCoist.

And he said: “I’ve never met Ally, obviously I watched him on the pitch for many a year, many years ago and it would be nice to meet Ally at some point. He was due to captain Scotland against England in the tennis match that got cancelled last Christmas so it’s going to be revived this coming December so maybe we can try and catch up then if he’s involved again.”

Norrie Jnr was born in Johannesburg, raised in Auckland and completed his studies in Fort Worth, Texas, but the Scottish influence in him runs strong. He has spoken previously of his affection for Rangers, although also has a soft spot for Newcastle United.
