Down and Derry drew at Ballycran in Division 2A of the Allianz Hurling League in a result that suited neither side.

Cormac O'Doherty found the net for the Oak Leafers inside five minutes with a penalty, but a brace of points each from Paul Sheehan, Tim Prenter and Pearse Óg McCrickard, pushed Down five clear on 13 minutes.

The gap was nine at the break and Wicklow didn't look back as Sam O'Dowd's high ball in ended up in the net, before Gavin Weird added second major.

Things are still wide open in Division 3A after Mayo smashed home five goals to inflict a first defeat on leaders Monaghan. Jason Coyne, Eoin Delaney, Sean Kenny and Adrian Phillips found the back of the net in the opening 35 as the Green and Red moved into the ascendancy. The fifth would arrive shortly after the restart from Daniel Huane as the Connacht side registered their first victory of the campaign.

They stay bottom of the table however after Roscommon comprehensively swept Armagh aside to move up to second place. Again the gap was 11 at half-time before Naos Connaughton
