Allan Saint-Maximin's brilliant response to Gallowgate End chants ahead of Leicester clash

Allan Saint-Maximin has come under his fair share of criticism from Newcastle United supporters in recent weeks for his performances, but there was a poignant moment last week that helped the Magpies grab all three points. The French winger did not enjoy one of his best games in a black and white shirt.

Nonetheless, instead of turning on the winger, the Gallowgate faithful chanted Saint-Maximin's name, minutes before helping set up the winner. The 25-year-old nutmegged Willy Boly in the middle of the park to set Joelinton on a marauding run into the Wolves half, a move that culminated with the Magpies winning a penalty.

Responding to a tweet highlighting the incident, Saint-Maximin said: "It's very important to have your support." His inconsistency has frustrated Newcastle supporters in recent weeks but the Frenchman remains an integral part of Eddie Howe's survival bid.

The Frenchman insisted his ambition is to stay with Newcastle United 'for a long time' despite speculation linking him with a move away from St. James' Park. The recent transfer speculation has divided opinion with some supporters believing the club should cash in on the winger.

Saint-Maximin remains a fan favourite on Tyneside for his flamboyant performances on the pitch and humorous outbursts on social media. His recent post will only go down well with fans.
