Alison Hammond sends message after strong reaction to Great British Bake Off debut amid 'telling off' baker

Alison Hammond has sent a message to fans following a strong reaction to her debut on The Great British Bake Off. The This Morning star is the new co-host of the hit Channel 4 show which returned for a new series on Tuesday (September 26).

Alison, famed for her role on This Morning having become a roving reporter for the ITV daytime show more than 20 years ago before being given a co-host role with Dermot O'Leary, has replaced Matt Lucas as the host of series 14 alongside Noel Fielding.

And her stint on the popular baking programme got off to an interesting start as in the show's opener - a spoof of the classic film The Godfather - Noel presented Alison before The Breadfather. The head honcho was, of course, Paul Hollywood, who had taken on the persona of Don Pauleone.

After kissing Paul's loaf, Hammond was welcomed into the Bake Off family. She was then seen throughout the episode alongside Noel as 12 amateur bakers were set their first series of challenges by Paul and Dame Prue Leith as they vie for the title of Britain's best amateur baker.

And it's fair to say Bake Off viewers were a fan of the new recruit. @Keita_MTX said: "It’s only been five mins but I LOVE Alison Hammond on." @LittleMemoirs commented: "@AlisonHammond was MADE for this show!! Makes watching this year all the more fun." @BigBadDaveB shared: "Early days but Alison Hammond looks like a good booking. Enthusiastic and bubbly but not OTT." @JamesConlon_ added: "I am absolutely obsessed with Alison and it feels like she should have always been there."

Following the
