Alfredo Morelos Rangers state of play as ex-Ibrox star urges striker to 'prove his worth'

Alan Hutton believes Alfredo Morelos will be benched once again for Rangers' Champions League showdown with PSV.

The Colombian hitman has returned to the first-team fold following a lengthy spell on the sidelines after surgery to his thigh after suffering an injury on international duty. However, the fans' favourite has not started since his return with Giovanni van Bronckhorst favouring summer signing and on-form Antonio Colak.

The Croatia international made it four goals from four games in the first meeting with the Dutch giants at Ibrox during the week and ex- Rangers defender Hutton believes he will get the nod once again. The striker has done the job he was brought to the club to do so far and can't see any reason to go and change that. But former Scotland international Hutton - who played down south with Tottenham - has now said Morelos needs to 'prove his worth' when an opportunity lands his way.

When asked if Van Bronckhorst would likely choose Colak over Morelos for the return clash with PSV next week, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he will now.

“Obviously it’s a player that the manager has brought in. He wants to put his own stamp onto the team. He was probably a little bit unsure with the future of Morelos, is he staying is he going.

“He’s [Colak] done nothing wrong. At the end of the day he’s been brought in to score goals, Rangers struggled at the end of last season for that, he’s done his job and done it really well so I don’t see why he would then go and change it.

“It’s really up to Morelos to go and prove his worth and when given that opportunity to take it.“
