Alexis Guimond posts narrow Para ski win for Canada at World Cup in Austria
Canadian Para skier Alexis Guimond won gold in the men's standing downhill race at a World Cup stop Wednesday in Saalbach, Austria.
Guimond, from Gatineau, Que., finished first in a time of 54.91 seconds to narrowly beat France's Arthur Bauchet (54.95).
Robin Cuche of Switzerland (55.27) was third.
Guimond, who finished third in a race Tuesday, picked up his first World Cup gold in 18 career downhill races.
Also Wednesday, Mollie Jepsen of West Vancouver, B.C., finished third in the women's standing downhill with a time of 59.05 seconds.
Aurelie Richard of France (58.09) won gold, followed by Varvara Voronchikhina of Russia (58.35).
Jepsen has reached the podium in all four World Cup downhill races this season, and six of nine overall.
Michaela Gosselin of Collingwood, Ont., was fifth.
