Alex Telles in Man Utd exit admission as star plots return to club he is ‘eternally grateful’ for

Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has detailed his plan to return to Porto in the future, as he ‘identifies with the club’.

Telles came through the ranks at Juventude in his native Brazil before signing with Gremio in 2012. Following a spell at Galatasaray, the six-cap international joined Inter Milan on loan in August 2015.

Telles made 22 appearances for Inter during his season-long spell, but did not manage to register a goal.

He had no plans to remain in Italy and left for Porto after briefly returning to Galatasaray.

The 29-year-old went on to have a successful spell at the Estadio do Dragao, helping Porto to win two league titles and one Portuguese cup.

The Dragoes, as they are known in Portugal, also won the 2019 super cup during Telles’ time there.

As much as he loved the club, the defender had to make the next step in his career and that happened when Manchester United came calling.

According to Sky Sports, Telles’ signing cost the Red Devils £15.4million.

He has gone on to make 43 appearances for United, including 19 so far this campaign.

Telles is generally behind Luke Shaw in the pecking order but has been given a decent amount of starts by Ralf Rangnick in the last few months.

During a recent interview, Telles was asked about potentially returning to Porto one day.

It could happen when his United contract expires in 2024 – and clearly the player is up for a reunion.

“I’m eternally grateful to the club and of course one day I think about going back there and continuing this cycle,” Telles said (via Sport Witness).

“It was a very happy period in my life. FC Porto is a love story. Of the clubs I’ve played, it’s the one with I most identified with, it was four years there.
