Alex Gerrard pleased to sign new deal with Salford

Salford prop Alex Gerrard has signed a new two-year deal, keeping him at the Red Devils until at least the end of the 2024 season.

The 30-year-old front-rower has made nine appearances for the Red Devils since arriving from Leigh ahead of this season.

Gerrard said: “I’m really pleased to be a part of what we’re building here. The environment at Salford is great, they’re a good group of lads.

“I want to continue to contribute to the team positively and improve on my performances week in, week out.”

Salford coach Paul Rowley said: “Alex has been fantastic on and off the pitch. He’s an experienced and clever player and is well respected and valued by all the coaches and the playing group.

“I’m really pleased that he’s extended and look forward to him contributing positively to the group.”

Red Devils director of rugby and operations Ian Blease said: “Alex has been a brilliant addition to the squad since arriving in January and it’s great to see him thriving at Salford.

“He is an important part of our pack and we’re delighted to have him with us for another two years.”

Gerrard made more than 100 appearances for Widnes between 2010-18. He moved to Leigh for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, where he suffered relegation from Super League.

Next up for Salford is a trip to Hull KR on Sunday. Rowley’s side currently sit ninth in the Super League table, having won five from 13 games so far in 2022.

Salford have five players out of contract at the end of the season. The contracts of Elijah Taylor, Greg Burke, Harvey Livett, Sam Luckley and Tim Lafai are due to expire at the end of the year.
