Alex Dunne lands Irish International Driver of the Year award
Offaly teenager Alex Dunne has been named the Irish International Driver of the Year at the Champions of Irish Motorsport Awards, which were held in Dublin on Wednesday.
Donegal's Eamonn Kelly, the newly-crowned British junior rally champion, was awarded the Billy Coleman Award as the Young Rally Driver of the Year and received €100,000 to pursue his rallying career.
Alex Denning won the Dunlop Sexton Trophy as the best Young Racing Driver and with it €50,000 in prize money designed to assist with his future racing career,
It was an extraordinary year for Offaly teenager Dunne, winning the British Formula 4 series with a round to spare before remaining with US Racing to compete in the Italian F4 Championship where he finished second overall.
He is the son of Noel Dunne, a former racing driver who won the Irish Formula Ford F1600 series on two occasions and the Festival at Brands.
In 2023 Dunne is planning to step up to the newly rebranded GB£ series.
The season is scheduled to be run over eight triple-header rounds and will start on 8 April at Oulton Park. He has also been selected to join the Ferrari Driver Academy scouting camp.
Ralf Schumacher has said he expects a bright future for Dunne.
