Alex Dunne becomes first Irish driver to achieve podium finish in Formula 3

Alex Dunne has become the first Irish driver to achieve a podium finish in Formula 3 after coming home second in the sprint race at the Spanish Grand Prix in Cataluyna.

The 18-year old Offaly man, driving with Dutch outfit MP Motorsport, finished in second spot in today's 21-lap sprint race at the Barcelona track behind home favourite Mari Boya.

It is Dunne's first podium finish in his debut season in Formula 3, having previously achieved points in Bahrain and in the sprint race in Melbourne.

Dunne, who won the 2022 British F4 Championship title, joined the McClaren driver development programme last month.
