Alessia Russo, from Maidstone, named in provisional England squad for Women's Euros

Footballer Alessia Russo, from Maidstone, has been named in the provisional England squad for the Women’s Euros.

The Manchester United forward, 23, is among 28 players selected by manager Sarina Wiegman for this summer's championships, which start in July and take place on home soil for the Three Lions.

Russo, who went to St Simon Stock School in the county town, came through the England junior ranks before receiving her first senior call-up in 2020, when former boss Phil Neville picked her for the SheBelieves Cup in America.

She has five caps for her country, scoring a hat-trick in a 20-0 thrashing of Latvia last November.

Russo, whose former clubs include Chelsea and Brighton, has been a regular in Wiegman's squads since the Dutch boss succeeded Neville.

The 28 will be trimmed to 23 in mid-June, with England starting the Euros against Austria at Old Trafford - Russo's club ground - on July 6.

The final takes place at Wembley on July 31.

England are currently 4/1 second favourites to win the tournament, behind Spain, who are priced 7/2.
