Alejandro Garnacho and the Man United players getting extra training time with Erik ten Hag

Following a relentless period, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will most probably be glad of a temporary halt ahead of his side's campaign resuming on November 26.

United signed off for the third international break of the season with a 1-0 win over Luton Town on Saturday, making it four wins from their last five Premier League outings. Victor Lindelof scored the only goal of the game to help them reduce the gap to the top four to just five points.

It means the Reds will be hungry to build on the triumph when they travel to Goodison Park to face Everton in their first game back after the current hiatus. The trip to Merseyside will mark United's first of 10 matches in the space of just 35 days before the end of 2023.

With a marathon of such scale and importance on the horizon, Ten Hag probably would have preferred to have wrapped his players in cotton wool over the current break to avoid any further injury worries. Instead, nine members of his first-team squad have jetted off to link up with their international colleagues.

Though nine members of his squad will be absent from Carrington until the back end of next week, or in some cases the middle, Ten Hag will still have a large group to work with, though several of them may end up spending more time in the treatment room than on the grass. Both Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund have been forced to pull out of the Denmark squad after picking up injuries at the weekend.

Elsewhere, Jonny Evans has been forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad with an injury problem of his own.
