Erik ten Hag told how Manchester United transfer can solve Rasmus Hojlund concern

Andy Cole reckons Manchester United need to sign an experienced striker to help Rasmus Hojlund develop.

The 20-year-old Denmark prospect has yet to open his Premier League account since joining United for £72million this summer. However, the former Atalanta man has scored five goals in as many Champions League matches.

By and large, United have struggled for goals this campaign, but netted three goals in victory over Everton in their last top-flight match and did likewise against European opponents Galatasaray in midweek. However, in that game they also shipped three goals at the other end.

Cole said: "I think an issue for Hojlund is he hasn't got anyone to learn from and improve his game. When I joined United, I had the likes of Hughes and Cantona to learn from.

"As I then settled into the team, I could still improve my game playing with the likes of Solskjaer, Sheringham and Yorke. So there was always an opportunity to learn, but Hojlund hasn't got experience around him and the burden falls completely on him.

"He works so hard and he's keen to impress. It's a lot of pressure to put on someone so young."

Cole added: "United need to bring in a forward who's played at a high level for many years as they're not scoring enough goals. That will take a lot of the burden off Hojlund and also give him someone to learn from.

"However, the last player United had of the calibre was van Persie. United have always been a high-scoring team, but they're not hitting the numbers they need to."
