Albion Rovers star rejects new deal as club provide squad update

Goalkeeper Cammy Binnie has turned down a new deal at Albion Rovers.

The 24-year-old joined the Cliftonhill club last season from Stirling Albion and enjoyed a solid individual season as Rovers secured League Two survival.

However, despite being in good form and making some crucial saves, he was in and out of the team after the arrival of Hearts loanee Harry Stone during the January transfer window, making just five appearances after that time.

Rovers have provided a squad update and announced four players from last season have so far committed their futures to the club for the 2022/23 campaign, with Jamie Leslie, Scott Roberts, Adam Fernie and Chris Smith all agreeing new contracts.

Rovers boss Brian Reid offered a new deal to Binnie but the club has revealed the shot-stopper declined the opportunity for a second season in Coatbridge.

Their statement read: "Jamie Leslie, Scott Roberts, Adam Fernie and Chris Smith have all agreed to new contracts and will be here for Season 22/23.

"We’re delighted to have them on board for the upcoming campaign.

"Cammy Binnie was offered a new contract but has decided to move on from the club.

"We’d like to wish him the best in the future, Cammy was a model professional and of course, he liked the odd penalty save!

"We’re still in discussions with others, and as always at this time of year, a number of players are currently on holiday and this has halted any progress until they return."
