Albion Rovers' SPFL destiny still in our hands, says boss Sandy Clark with season on knife edge

Sandy Clark insists Albion Rovers will need to focus on themselves and not worry about a helping hand from others in their battle to beat the drop from the SPFL.

The Cliftonhill side are bottom of League Two heading into the final two games of the campaign as they aim to avoid the dreaded relegation play-off that comes with a 10th-place finish.

A vital win over Stenhousemuir on Saturday cut the gap at the bottom to just one point from Elgin City and two from fellow strugglers Bonnyrigg Rose.

Rovers now travel to East Fife this afternoon ahead of hosting champions Stirling Albion on May 6 in their last game.

And with Rose and Elgin meeting each other on the final day of the season, that could prove crucial in helping Rovers avoid finishing bottom.

But Clark warned they must concentrate on themselves.

He said: “The way it is, we are going to go into the last game needing something from it.

“As for people doing us favours, nobody helped us on Saturday so we need to focus on ourselves. It just shows that Elgin, Bonnyrigg and ourselves are all up for the fight and trying hard to survive.

“Hopefully it will be us who manage to get there.

“If you are an Albion Rovers fan, you’ve got to be so frustrated with where we are because we’ve got quality in the team, we’ve got good players, so you are left asking how are we where we are?

“But there’s a simple answer: we haven’t won enough games.

“We showed on Saturday that we have what it takes to win games and we’ve got to do that again in the next two games to make sure we stay in the league.

“The massive thing for me is it is still in our own hands with Bonnyrigg and Elgin needing to play each other on the last day.”
