Albion Rovers boss: Stenhousemuir throwing money about like crazy so we'll face tough league opener

Brian Reid says his Albion Rovers side face a tough League Two opener after being paired with Stenhousemuir who are "throwing money about like crazy."

The Warriors have raised a few eyebrows with the capture of Craig Bryson from SPFL Premiership side St Johnstone and striker Will Sewell from West of Scotland Premier Division outfit Largs Thistle, where he was top scorer last season.

It's the kind of players Rovers can only dream of attracting with their shoestring budget.

Reid knows it will be a daunting opener against Stephen Swift's side at Ochilview, but Rovers showed last season with a win over promotion hopefuls Annan and a draw with champions Kelty Hearts that they can pull off big results.

He said: "Stenny are obviously big spenders.

"They are throwing money about like crazy.

"They've paid a big fee for the boy from Largs and brought in Craig Bryson. No disrespect, but he isn't on peanuts.

"That's what we are up against, but that's their prerogative. If they've got the money they can do it.

"They've got a big budget so you will expect them to be one of the fancied teams.

"It's a big ask but we just need to worry about ourselves.

"We know we are capable of going there and winning the game and that's what we'll be trying to do because last season we showed we could beat anyone on our day.

"We'll be ready and well prepared."

Rovers were unable to get the better of Stenny last term, losing three times and drawing once.

And Reid added: "We've beaten them a couple of times since my time at the club, but last season, for some reason, they were one of the teams that had a wee thing over us so we'll be wanting to put that to bed.

"There's no better time than the first game of the season."
