Albion Rovers announce board appointment following chairman's resignation

Albion Rovers have announced a new appointment to the board, following the announcement that Ian Benton has stepped down as chairman of the football club.

Hugh Morrison has joined the board of directors and takes on his new role having been heavily involved with the Albion Rovers Supporters' Trust in recent years. He also helps run the club shop at Cliftonhill and is a regular at club events, whilst helping the club keep their ground in good shape.

It comes after Mr Benton announced his is stepping down due to "personal reason" after a 15-year association with the Wee Rovers.

A statement from the Lowland League club read: "Albion Rovers FC are pleased to confirm that Hugh Morrison has joined the club’s Board of Directors with immediate effect.

"Hugh is a well-known face around Cliftonhill and he often goes above and beyond to help the club. His level-headed and honest approach will be a real asset to the Board of Directors going forward.

"We’re sure everyone associated with the club will wish Hugh well as he takes on this new role."

The club's board of directors is as follows:

Mark Hunter (vice-chairman), Jordan Campbell, Robert Cameron and Hugh Morrison.

Regarding the appointment of a new chairman, the club stated: "We're currently considering the current boardroom set up carefully and we will update supporters in due course."
