'Alarm bells are ringing' - Mauricio Pochettino sent Manchester United message after PSG collapse

Mauricio Pochettino endured a night to forget on Wednesday as his Paris Saint-Germain side crashed out of the Champions League – and the result didn’t go unnoticed by Manchester United fans.

The French giants looked to be well on course for a place in the quarter-finals after Kylian Mbappe put them 2-0 up on aggregate at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Frenchman had scored the winner in Paris last month to give Pochettino’s side what seemed an all-important advantage.

But they threw the tie away in spectacular fashion, with Karim Benzema their chief tormenter. The 34-year-old struck his first goal just after the hour mark to give Real some hope in the tie.

The France international then drew the hosts level with under 15 minutes to go, before completing his hat-trick just two minutes later to send PSG and Pochettino crashing out of Europe.

The result will no doubt send shockwaves throughout the continent, and they'll be sure to reach Old Trafford. Pochettino is one of the frontrunners to become United’s new permanent manager as they look to make an appointment before the end of the season.

United fans though have sent a clear message to their club after seeing PSG collapse against Real. The result could well have a big impact on Pochettino’s chances of being appointed at Old Trafford.

Despite the result, Pochettino will remain one of the frontrunners for the United job alongside Erik ten Hag. United fans will no doubt be keeping a close eye on the Ajax boss to see how his side gets on next week against Benfica.
