Alan Shearer sends transfer message to Harry Kane amid Manchester United interest

Alan Shearer says he would be considering a move away from Tottenham Hotspur this summer if he were Harry Kane.

The England captain scored a wonder goal for Spurs against Brentford on Saturday, but Tottenham ended up falling to a 3-1 defeat against the Bees. The north London side are eighth in the table, with one Premier League match to play. They have won one of their last seven games - losing five.

And speculation surrounding Kane - whose contract expires in the summer of 2024 - continues to swirl. The Manchester Evening News understands that United have made the 29-year-old a target in the upcoming transfer window, as manager Erik ten Hag prioritises signing a first-choice centre-forward to spearhead his United XI.

One-club man Kane remains on the hunt for a trophy at club level, with that eluding Spurs once again this season. And Shearer feels now has to be the time for the striker to start looking at a new challenge.

"If it was me, personally, in his situation now - yeah, I would look at my options," said Shearer on Match of the Day. "He has been so loyal to Tottenham and so brilliant for Tottenham. I don't think any Tottenham fan could complain if he said: 'Look, I've done my time and I have got to look elsewhere."

Ex-Spurs man Jermaine Jenas weighed in on his old club's situation, saying: "I think that (little hope next season) is the thing that's most upsetting for fans. There is no doubt that teams can go through tough times and so on and so forth - if you lose managers.

"But there doesn't seem to be a path or direction. There's no manager, no style of play. Who is staying? Who is going? And their biggest problem: their best player.
